She's so lucky... She's a Star

Sophomore Christie Griffin wins Britney Spears look-alike contest

Christie Griffin has a star quality about her, though someone else is really the star. Griffin, a sophomore, won the 'Body like Britney' look-alike contest sponsored by a Chicago area radio station in November. One of three finalists, Griffin's photo was chosen as most closely resembling Britney Spears. The grand prize was $5,000, a limousine ride to Chicago and four tickets to the Britney Spears concert.\nGriffin has been mistaken for Britney Spears since her senior year of high school. \n"I've been told that a lot, but I don't see it myself," Griffin said. \nAt home in Munster, Ind., Griffin worked at Fashion Bug and Applebee's where she was constantly questioned by kids and adults alike. Griffin has been asked for her autograph many times.\nGriffin heard of the contest while here at IU. \n"One of the girls in my sorority told me (about the contest)," she said.\nGriffin entered in the third week of the contest. She thought she wouldn't make it in time, but she was chosen as the week three winner and went on to be the grand prize winner. The contest used a fan vote to determine the winner, so Griffin enlisted some help.\n"All of the sisters at Alpha Phi helped a lot," Griffin said. \nGina Ochs, a junior and sister at Alpha Phi, is proud of her colleague. \n"Everywhere I take her, people always say she looks like Britney Spears. She could definitely use the money," Ochs said.\nMany of the Alpha Phi sisters had their friends and family vote for Griffin to put her over the top.\nWhile at the concert in Chicago, Griffin had little girls running up to her and asking for her autograph. \n"I don't think (Britney) is a good role model. She's 20 years old. She's my age. She can't sing bubble-gum pop songs for the rest of her life. But she is a really good performer," Griffin said.\nAs for the prize money, Griffin doesn't plan to keep it for long. \n"This money is going straight to the bursar," Griffin said. "I don't want to be Britney Spears, I just want to pay for college."\nGriffin's mother agrees with her decision to use the money for school.\n"(Christie) is a good student. By some genetic thing, she just happens to look like somebody famous," Griffin's mother said. "She's supposed to get a makeover with the money. But, it became the Britney Spears Scholarship fund"
