Overturned car slows traffic, but causes no injuries

An automobile wreck Wednesday afternoon left a long line of traffic and a lengthy cleanup at the corner of 17th Street and Fee Lane. One car was flipped over while the other, a black Volkswagen, had its right-rear tire shoved into the backseat.\nThe accident began at the entrance to the Wilcox House when sophomore Erica Hursh turned onto Fee Lane where graduate student Yeronimo Ciriaco was driving.\n"Erica pulled out to go south on Fee Lane," said IUPD Lieutenant Jerry Minger. "Some medical condition caused Yeronimo to lose consciousness. He hit her in the rear and side of the car, and he continued on to the right and into the grass."\nHursh said Ciriaco was down the road, so she thought it was safe to pull out of the driveway. \n"I was pulling out of the Wilcox House," Hursh said. "He was speeding, and next thing I know he's in my back window. He veered to try not to hit me and hit my side and started flipping."\nOnce Ciriaco's car was off the road, the car knocked down a couple street signs before it began rolling, Minger said. "He was already sideways when he went onto the asphalt again near the parking lot, and the momentum just flipped him over," Minger said.\nBoth drivers were able to walk away from the accident with no major injuries. "The only injuries listed were to (Ciriaco's) knee and lower leg," Minger said. "Just some minor bleeding. In fact, he wasn't even admitted to the hospital."\nJeff Fanter, director of media relations for the athletic department where Ciriaco works as a weight room assistant, said Ciriaco was okay after the accident. "We believe he went to the hospital, got checked out and is back in the weight room working," Fanter said.
