Divers head south for championship

Women compete for individual titles

As most students head home for the summer, three IU divers have been preparing for the FINA/USA Grand Prix Diving Championships which will be held in Coral Springs, Fla. this weekend.\nSenior Erin Quinn, junior Sara Reiling and sophomore Cassie Cardinell qualified to compete in this prestigious championship. Dr. Jeff Huber was appointed as the coach for these divers. He said his expectations are very high, and he feels these divers should have a great impact at the meet. \n"I hope to have all three divers medal at the FINA/USA Diving Grand Prix," he said. "We are beyond the point of just showing up at the meet and participating. It is time to beat the top divers and be the best, not only in the US, but also in the world." \nHuber has been coaching these women all season, and said he knows that they have the ability to do extremely well at these championships because of their individual and team accomplishments.\n"This season was good and close to great," he said. "We narrowly missed winning several events at the NCAA's and narrowly missed putting all three women on the world team." \nThese divers are not only preparing for the Grand Prix, but are also intensely training for other championships they will compete in this summer. Huber said that Quinn and Cardine will compete in Xi An in the China Open May 31-June 2, and Reiling will be diving in Seville, Spain June 25-29 in the World Cup Championships.\nTom Davidson, who graduated in 2001, will also compete at the Grand Prix.
