RHA walk to benefit relief efforts

Residence Hall Association Student Services will sponsor the IU Unity Walk Sunday with proceeds benefitting the American Red Cross 9-11 National Disaster Relief Fund. \nAimed at making people "feel better after the attacks while giving to a worthy cause," the event will allow people to show support for campus unity and diversity, event coordinator Sarah Dilworth, a graduate student, said.\n"The walk is to help show that we are a united community," Dilworth said. \nDonations will go to those in need of financial and emotional support. \nIn the days following the Sept. 11 attacks, Dilworth said she found that exercise helped her to relieve the stress and tension the attacks had caused. \n"Running made me feel better," Dilworth said. "I wondered if it would make others feel better too."\nThe 5K "walk" begins at 8 a.m. at the Mellencamp Pavilion. \nRegistration for the walk is $15 per person, and participants are given the option of getting a t-shirt with the walk or donating the entire registration amount to the relief fund.\nWhile the walk asks for a $15 donation, Dilworth stresses that families and individuals not give beyond their means. She just asks they help out in whatever way they can.\n"If people just want to come and help show support, that's fine with us," Dilworth said. "I'd rather see someone give a little and help out, than give beyond their means."\nFor additional information,\ne-mail unity01@indiana.edu
