Professor reports $3,000 for foreign travel stolen from desk in Ballantine Hall

An IU professor reported Friday that $3,000 for a trip to South America was missing from his Ballantine Hall office, the IU Police Department said Monday.\nThe case is currently under investigation, IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger said.\nMinger said the faculty member shares an office with coworkers and left his desk drawer unlocked with the money inside when he left after a teaching a class Thursday night. When he returned 11 a.m. Friday, he noticed the money was missing, Minger said.\nThe faculty member said he locked the door to the office when he left Thursday night, police said. Police are currently questioning anyone with access to the Ballantine Hall office.\nThe faculty member withdrew the money from the Indiana Memorial Union's branch of the IU Credit Union earlier Thursday evening before he was to teach a class on campus.
