Field hockey's Girouard earns weekly Big Ten honor

Following IU’s successful weekend road campaign in which the Hoosiers defeated No. 15 Wake Forest, sophomore midfielder Ciara Girouard was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.

Through the first two weeks of the season, Girouard has been IU’s leading scorer with four goals.

Girouard scored a hat trick against Villanova last Friday to begin IU's weekend trip, helping lead IU to a 4-3 win.

After starting all 20 games as a freshman forward last season, Girouard has already equaled her 2016 goal total through the first two weeks of the 2017 season.

Girouard is the second IU player to receive the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award in the past two years, with the other award having gone to former player Kate Barber last year.

This is Girouard’s first career weekly honor and the first Big Ten honor for IU since Noëlle Rother took home two Defensive Player of the Week honors during the 2016 season.

IU now starts a four-game home stand at the IU Field Hockey Complex with three nonconference opponents, as well as a Big Ten opponent with Maryland also scheduled to play IU.
