Congo violence sparks exodus

CIBITOKE, Burundi -- More than 22,000 Congolese refugees fleeing fighting in eastern Congo have crossed the border into Burundi in the past week, a local official said Wednesday. The refugees have been put into two camps in Cibitoke and Rugumbo, two towns just miles apart near the Congolese border. Refugees were separated because of tensions between different tribes in eastern Congo, said Onespohore Nduwumwami, mayor of Rugombo.

In the Federal Budget Allocation Activity, the general public, high school or college students can engage in the allocation of money to different agencies and learn the implications of their decisions for the entire budget.

Fortune has been smiling on Dalia Kaikhasraw since her arrival at IU in February to participate in the Intensive English Program. Kaikhasraw, a Fulbright scholar from Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, attended the G-8 summit at Sea Island, Ga., last week. Shaming Chicago uncalled for Recently, Jimmy Kimmel's late night talk show was pulled off the air because of mildly bad comments made about Detroit as a joke. Is anyone for Kerry?

Several months ago, I wrote a column titled "Who IS John Kerry?" I have yet to get a reasonable answer. Of course, there were a lot of letters to the editor slamming both me and President Bush for attacking Kerry, but none to my knowledge had much of anything to say in support of Kerry.

Local group tours many area gardens

The Bloomington Garden Club will tour diverse and private gardens this weekend in its 15th annual Summer Garden Walk from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, which includes Hilltop Garden and Nature Center and Oliver Winery. "The summer garden walk is great because you are able to view so many different types of gardens, from very big to small and personal," said Pat Bartlett, a member of the Bloomington Garden Club.

Truly Remarkable Loon comes to Bloomington

End of the Year Awards handed out

Junior Sean Jefferson, the national indoor mile champion, was named IU Male Athlete of the Year, and the Big Ten women's golf medalist senior Danah Ford was awarded the IU Female Athlete of the Year honor.
