Is anyone for Kerry?

Several months ago, I wrote a column titled "Who IS John Kerry?" I have yet to get a reasonable answer. \nOf course, there were a lot of letters to the editor slamming both me and President Bush for attacking Kerry, but none to my knowledge had much of anything to say in support of Kerry. Can anyone say why they will vote for Kerry other than the fact that his last name isn't Bush? \nThe few people I have talked to who can say definitively why they will vote for Kerry are single-issue voters. Specifically, they are women who wish to protect abortion privileges. But then again, there are precious few Republicans who favor abortion rights and have the political wherewithal to attain the Republican nomination for president. It's never so much a vote for Kerry as it is a vote for something else.\nAnti-Bush: 1. Kerry: 0.\nOK, let's look at Iraq. As much as Kerry tries to blame Bush for Iraq, he signed off on it -- for whatever reason -- and he is as responsible as anyone in Congress who voted for it. He wasn't against the war until it was fashionable to be so, thereby stealing Gov. Howard Dean's thunder and the presumable nomination. \nDean: 1. Kerry: 0.\nPerhaps Kerry could gain some support on the economy/job-loss issue. Except, well, not really. He voted for the North American Free Trade Agreement, the red herring often blamed for the exportation of American jobs, even though many jobs are being shipped to India and other places not included in NAFTA. \nNonetheless, Kerry later renounced his vote for NAFTA, citing a lack of environmental and labor protection provisions, as if we could export business without exporting some jobs or developing (a.k.a. poor) countries would really implement any mandatory (and expensive) environmental standards. \nAlso note that the country is continuing to create more domestic jobs, further deflating the argument for Kerry. His plans to increase taxes are as likely to help the economy as Lil' Jon's "Get Low" has of earning him the Nobel Prize for Literature. \nGrowing economy: 1. Kerry: 0.\nI concede that Kerry is a war hero, but when said hero chucks his nation's gratitude into the reflecting pool at the National Mall for a photo op, he forgoes all privileges to then use said heroism as evidence of patriotism and character. \nShameful self-aggrandizement: 1. Kerry: 0.\nThe list goes on ad nauseam, but the fact remains that all anyone can say about John Kerry is that he is not George W. Bush. I, in turn, offer the following alternative, non-Bush candidates for President:\nShirley MacClaine -- Potentially the first female president. She claims to have been many people in past lives, but not one of them was George W. Bush.\n Howard Dean -- Perhaps he was overexuberant, but he was a lonely voice from the left who opposed the war. He's not Bush and he would not pretend to be him if it suddenly became popular. For that I respect him. \n Charles Manson -- Being the anti-people candidate, we can be relatively certain he is in favor of abortion rights. Yet given the fact that he is still breathing because of the nationwide death penalty moratorium the Supreme Court enacted after his conviction, he is presumably also anti-death penalty. (Perhaps he can get an endorsement from Amnesty International.) And best of all, he's not Bush.\nA challenge to Kerry supporters: Kindly explain to me why John Kerry should be president of the United States -- not why Bush shouldn't be. There are plenty of people who are not George Bush, but why Kerry?
