Ball State head coach resigns amid controversy

Ball State University’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins officially announced the resignation of men’s basketball coach Ronny Thompson at a 1 p.m. press conference Friday.

IU football team’s desire will quiet critics

IU is a big-time athletics school. This point is clear because of the construction on the North End Zone project that began recently, the board of trustees consideration of the construction of a new basketball arena (to be built once the approximately $130 million can be brought in to construct it) and a huge fan base that demands winning. But the size of IU athletics and its influence on the national market are not as high as those of Ohio State and Michigan. Those schools’ reputations? Great athletics programs that are home to one thing currently absent in Bloomington – a powerhouse football team.

Earth First! Common sense last!

Last week, radical environmentalists/anarchists from the Earth First! movement vandalized One City Center, a downtown building housing the I-69 planning offices, by painting and chalking the area with anti-interstate, pro-environment slogans.

Body found in Griffy Lake identified Friday afternoon

Local authorities are investigating a body found in Griffy Lake on Thursday afternoon. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Bloomington Police, Sheriff’s and Fire Departments were all on the scene. Indiana State Police were assisting as well.

Umphreakin Out! Making it into my favorite band's DVD

Standing in the front row of the balcony, I knew I was in for a big night. Having arrived early enough to obtain these seats, I was able to soak in my surroundings. The theme of the weekend was the Big Top, and the stage was set accordingly. Camera rigs and cranes were visible on the sides of the venue and on the stage. Wheels were already in motion for what was set to be Umphrey's McGee's second music DVD.
