Senior guard Nikki Smith gave the IU women’s basketball program all four years of her college career, which were full of coaching changes, roster turnover and adversity. Sunday against Penn State, her teammates and Hoosier fans gave her a winning send-off in her final game at Assembly Hall.

Activist-actor Martin Sheen to receive medal from Notre Dame

Activist-actor Martin Sheen will be honored by the University of Notre Dame with its Laetare Medal for his humanitarian work, the school announced Sunday. Sheen, who starred as a U.S. president who was a Notre Dame graduate in NBC’s “The West Wing,” is to receive the medal at the school’s May 18 commencement.

Our culture has a serious obsession with sex. We’ve destroyed its intended gift, causing thousands of people to suffer from disease, relationships and lives to be ruined, and babies to die by the millions each year. With the porn industry generating $13 billion annually, it is ravaging men’s and women’s lives and leads to sexual addiction and objectification.

Sometimes, I can’t help but suspect that back when he was a young and impressionable child, science killed President George W. Bush’s dog. Whether or not, for example, it was in some freak chemistry lab explosion during show-and-tell day, I don’t know – but, whatever it was, it appears to have left a deep and lasting grudge.

Cutting tuition opens doors

Last week, Brown University made the decision to eliminate tuition for all applicants who come from families with an income of $60,000 dollars a year or less. In addition, the school will replace student loans with grants as financial aid for all students whose parents make less than $100,000 a year.
