COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Mental toughness, effort, and the desire to win are three key factors that contribute to a victory. The IU men's basketball team lacked all three as the No.15 Hoosiers (11-3, 1-1) fell to the Buckeyes (8-5, 1-1), 81-69 Saturday night.

Once again, IU men's basketball coach Mike Davis had his holidays ruined by the Kentucky Wildcats. But it wasn't just the loss that gave him the heartache, it was the threat of a six-game suspension, and ultimate one-game suspension that loomed over his head in the days following the game. Davis missed the IU game against Ball State on New Year's Eve.
Most fans would not have noticed the play of senior Kristen Bodine last night in IU's 62-52 conference victory over Northwestern. But, she was instrumental in changing the tempo of the game and changing the Hoosier's fortunes in the second half.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A pivotal reason why the IU women's basketball team lost by a mere two points to arch-rival No. 6 Purdue Saturday was the performance of freshman center Angela Hawkins. The 6-foot-3-inch center grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in addition to scoring nine points. "This was her second back-to-back wonderful game," coach Kathi Bennett said. "She has been especially good defensively."

While the final score was in Purdue's favor 51-53, it turned out to be a loss that showed IU can compete. "I really like where my team is at right now," coach Kathi Bennett said. "We started coming together, and it's a positive step for us."
