As the temperature rises in the summer recruiting battles over the top high school football players follow suit. Ben Chappell decided to end things Saturday before it got too hot as he became the second IU football commitment for 2006.

NFL suspends Colt

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts safety Mike Doss was suspended Wednesday by the NFL for the first two regular-season games after pleading no contest to misdemeanor gun charges.

Hoeppner recruits South quarterback

IU football coach Terry Hoeppner announced his second recruit, Bloomington South quarterback Ben Chappell. Chappell joins Ohio offensive lineman Pete Saxon as the most recent to join the 2006 recruiting class. The commitment of Chappell marks the first quarterback to commit since Hoeppner has been at IU.

Overton helps U.S. team win Palmer Cup

Former IU men's golf star Jeff Overton played an integral role in helping the United States win the Palmer Cup Thursday on the Irish course at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis. Overton won a singles match and a foursome match, as the U.S. team reclaimed the Cup by a 14-10 score.

Senior Aarik Wilson continued his star-studded senior year by placing third in the long jump Thursday at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
