Former Hoosier beats second bout of leukemia

The only quarterback ever to lead IU to victories against Michigan and Ohio State in the same season has been inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame — but that’s only part of the story. The rest is of a father of four who has twice defeated cancer and the support of a University that feels more like a family than an institution.

3-star back commits for 2011

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound running back rushed for more than 2,600 yards and scored 32 touchdowns during his junior campaign at Bloomington High School North. Roberts averaged more than 215 yards a game rushing and ranked second in the state in that category last year.

Spain takes home their first World Cup

As Stuart Gray watched Indiana Pacers mascot Boomer venture around College Mall and engage passers-by with handshakes, handstands and photos, the former Pacers center couldn’t help but chuckle at the feline who has been Indiana’s official mascot since 1991.

July free period for recruits begins

Indianapolis was the place to be for both coaches and recruits as the July free period kicked off with the annual adidas Invitational. The tournament, which took place in gyms located all around Indianapolis and its suburbs, drew in several big-name coaches, such as Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, UNC’s Roy Williams, Kansas’ Bill Self, Butler’s Brad Stevens and IU’s Tom Crean. The coaches watched several of the top-ranked players for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 recruiting classes, as well as several who have offers or interest from the Hoosiers.

Former Hoosier eyes roster spot for 2014 World Cup

With the American sports conscience fixated on South Africa and the 2010 World Cup for the last month, much talk has focused on how the U.S. team can improve upon its quarterfinal finish when the event moves to Brazil in 2014. And former IU standout and current member of the New England Revolution Kevin Alston hopes he’ll occupy a roster spot on the American team should it qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

U.S. Soccer Federation eyes World Cup bid for 2018 or 2022

On May 14, the plan for another U.S. World Cup went into motion as the U.S. Soccer Federation officially made its bid to FIFA to host either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. Supporters hope that another World Cup will spark more U.S. soccer momentum, like the 1994 one inspired the creation of U.S. professional league Major League Soccer. U.S. Bid Commitee member, actor Morgan Freeman, agrees.

Magic ends as US falters against Ghana

Landon Donovan launches Team USA into the knockout stage

After missing out on so many opportunities, it seemed as if the United States would miss out on the next round of the World Cup. Throughout the game against Algeria, Team USA created chance after chance but somehow could not find the back of the net. However, with very little time remaining, the thought that Team USA would not be moving on was slowly becoming a reality. Landon Donovan refused to let that happen.
