Among the nation's best: IU in line for top-10 finish in Sears Cup standings

·

IU is currently eighth in the Sears Directors' Cup standings, according to the latest release. If IU were to finish the 2001-02 sports season at the current ranking, it would be IU's highest finish since the overall collegiate sports award -- which is given to one NAIA school and one from each of the three NCAA divisions -- was introduced eight years ago.

Team manager adds new dimension

·

You won't see a record by his name, or even proof of him having played. He works about three and a half hours a day, six days a week and cleans out the grubby water jugs, shags tennis balls and destroys the strings on the rackets, then, restrings them. These are just a few of the duties performed by junior Brian Van Handle, team manager of the IU men's tennis team. He seldom gets noticed, but the team would be at a loss without him.

Middle of the pack looking to surge

·

Newcomers fill rows 3 and 4

·

Rows three and four of this year's race all have a grounded mentality, a sort of "give it your best shot" look at things. Most teams within these two rows are also relatively inexperienced. Within the rows, Delta Gamma is bringing the most know how.

Leaders of the pack

·

The front row of the 2002 women's Little 500 is no surprise to enthusiasts of the race. Since 1994, only Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta and the Roadrunners, last year's victors, have won the event.
