In game one against the No. 24 Hawkeyes Sunday, IU only stranded one runner on base. The problem is, the Hoosiers only put one runner on base as Iowa sophomore Lisa Birocci pitched a no hitter, walking one batter before the mercy rule went into effect after six innings with Iowa on top 8-0. Birocci baffled IU hitters all day long in the midst of her first career no-hitter, improving her record to a jaw-dropping 18-6. She struck out five of the first six batters and retired the first 14 she faced, but gave up a two-out walk to senior Katie Joy in the top of the fifth.

The baseball team takes to the road this weekend against Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, trailing the second place Buckeyes by just one game in the Big Ten race. The Hoosiers head to the unfriendly confines of Bill Davis Stadium after receiving quite a scare from non-conference opponent Wright State on Wednesday night. The Raiders grabbed an early 8-1 lead on the strength of a seven-run second inning before IU could muster a substantial rally in the top of the sixth. The five-run Hoosier sixth was highlighted by back-to-back RBI triples from seniors Brad DeStefano and Vasili Spanos, but it was junior Kevin Mahar who provided the real heroics.

Each team was able to break both of their losing streaks Wednesday with Kentucky winning the first game 9-5, and IU taking the second contest 4-2. The second game had a very interesting ending.
