After holding the Louisville Cardinals scoreless for eight innings Wednesday evening, the IU women's softball team was edged 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth by a solo homerun in the first game of their five game road trip.

Coming off a weekend when the Hoosier baseball team lost three of four games, they rebounded Wednesday with a 6-4 victory against in-state rival Indiana State. IU coach Bob Morgan decided to change the lineup defensively for Wednesday's game and said it was a change the Hoosiers have had readily available for most of the season. "We had intentions of doing that for quite some time," Morgan said.
Even with teams flying around the track a dozen times, the real action in today's Team Pursuit event might be happening in the bleachers.
If a team in this year's Little 500 race is looking to make a statement, today is its last competitive chance. Team Pursuit is the last of three series events leading up to the big race April 16.
While the seniors at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville, Ohio, are busy picking out dresses and tuxes for prom, Dennis Underwood is worrying about shoulder pads and cleats. Underwood, a freshman running back, became the first member of IU football coach Terry Hoeppner's inaugural recruiting class to make it to Bloomington. The Hoosiers' first stop will be today, when they travel to Kentucky to face Louisville in a nonconference game before continuing Big Ten play. The Cardinals have won their last six games, including back-to-back shutouts of Mississippi State University during which the team managed to put up 22 runs on 23 hits.

In less than favorable weather conditions, the Hoosiers (10-24 overall, 0-2 in conference) took the field Friday afternoon with junior pitcher Megan Roark on the mound.

IU kicked off a four-game series against the Northwestern Wildcats Saturday and began the Big Ten season with a victory. IU coach Bob Morgan said he was pleased with his team's performance but knew the Hoosiers had their work cut out for them.
