Leinart becomes USC's sixth Heisman winner

NEW YORK -- Matt Leinart replaced a Heisman Trophy winner and became one himself. The Southern California quarterback won college football's most prestigious individual award Saturday night, beating out Oklahoma teammates Adrian Peterson and Jason White, last year's winner.

IU WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

It took regulation, 2 overtimes and a shootout, but IU won its second straight national championship Sunday. IU won the shootout 3-2 after playing to a 1-1 tie. With under 10 minutes left in regulation, UC-Santa Barbara's Drew McAthy scored a goal to tie IU 1-1 in the national championship game. Sophomore forward Jacob Peterson scored as IU opened a 1-0 lead in the first half. Check back for more updates.

Suspended Pacers begin NBA arbitration

NEW YORK -- Ron Artest took the witness stand and described, in his words, one of the worst brawls in NBA history. It went on for six hours, with none of the witnesses being cross-examined by anyone from the league office.

After 3 months, NHL talks negotiations

TORONTO -- The NHL and the players' association returned to negotiations Thursday for the first time in three months, looking to end the lockout that has threatened the season. The sides met for about four hours at the NHL's office at the Air Canada Centre, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs, before calling it a day shortly after 3 p.m. The NHLPA invited the league back to the table last week and came with a new proposal.

Coach search heats up as names are added, dropped

Offense sputters, loses to Notre Dame

Grad student excels in, out of pool

With a nervous sickness in the pit of her stomach, IU diver Cassie Cardinell was staring her dreams square in the eye. After making sacrifices such as red-shirting her senior year at IU, she had finally achieved her dream. After what IU's head diving coach Jeff Huber calls "the best meet of her life," Cardinell advanced to Athens and then to finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials in the syncro 10-meter platform.
