Campillo’s sizzling summer continues

As if a second place finish at the NCAA Championships and a final round appearance at the British Amateur Championships weren’t enough, senior Jorge Campillo added another trophy to his mantel June 27 when he helped lead Team Europe to a Palmer Cup victory over the United States in Glasgow, Scotland.



10-time Hooosier all-American Aarik Wilson finishes off a jump at the 2005 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., where he finished 3rd. While at IU, Wilson won an NCAA title in the Long Jump and Triple Jump during the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships and will aim to earn a spot on the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Team this weekend.

FALLON, Nev. — Aarik Wilson, a 10-time all-American in track at Indiana, is on the verge of achieving his lifelong dream. Wilson will attempt to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Beijing when he competes this weekend in the U.S. Olympic trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Varsity Club sets new fundraising record

The University announced Wednesday that donations to the IU Varsity Club increased for the seventh consecutive year. With $7.7 million in donations, it is the fourth consecutive year that annual giving has set a new record for IU athletics.

Documents released by the University on Monday showed that IU President Michael McRobbie told the NCAA Committee on Infractions that the hiring of former basketball coach Kelvin Sampson was “a risk that should not have been taken.”

D.J. White to join young Seattle team

It did not take long for D.J. White’s first NBA trade. The Detroit Pistons drafted White with the 29th pick of the first round in Thursday’s 2008 NBA draft, but quickly dealt the Big Ten Player of the Year to the Seattle SuperSonics for the rights to two second-round picks, Walter Sharpe and Trent Plaisted.
