Players meet with President Brand

The IU basketball team met with President Myles Brand at about 3:45 p.m. today to voice its support for coach Bob Knight, said junior guard Dane Fife. Knight, who was placed under a "zero-tolerance" sanction in May, is facing accusations that he cursed at and forcefully grabbed freshman Kent Harvey for disrespecting him Thursday afternoon. The IU Police Department is investigating the incident.

Coach Bob Knight sat in "the cave" of Assembly Hall, a room where he often spends hours reviewing game and practice tape, with his legs crossed and dark brows raised. He does a lot of thinking in that room, but Friday he seemed puzzled.

Men's soccer defeats Maryland in overtime

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A men's soccer player and a coach joked after IU's 2-1 overtime win against Maryland Friday that when no one else can score a goal, just "dial 1-800-BACK." Marking back John Swann, a sophomore, notched the winning goal off a corner kick from junior midfielder Ryan Mack in the 102nd minute. In the 77th minute, defensive back David Prall knocked in his first career goal off another Mack corner kick. Defensive midfielder Justin Tauber, a senior, also assisted on the goal.

Kirkwood to rally for football game

In an effort to increase student participation and support for the football season, tonight kicks off the first of many Friday night rallies, dubbed "Paint the Town Red," which will overtake the streets of downtown Bloomington before each home game.

Enrollment reaches all-time high

Playwright visits campus

Athol Fugard, an internationally renowned playwright, will visit IU from Sept. 10-23. The author, whose works first spoke out against apartheid in South Africa in a dramatic, very public arena, will make two public appearances, as well as hold a workshop for students of acting and directing. He will also teach four sessions of an honors course on his plays.

RPS not keeping students in mind

There is one fact everyone on this campus can attest to -- college students have erratic schedules. Yet time and time again, Residential Programs and Services has seemingly ignored this fact in its practices. Just when dorm residents thought they'd achieved some flexibility with the meal plan, RPS changed the hours at its food courts again. Yes, Wright is still open until midnight, but most of the restaurants there now close at 8 p.m., leaving few choices by midnight. And that is only one example.

Talking back to bike thieves
