Difficult season made easier by coach

·

One can tell by the respect Ken Hydinger commands that he is not an average coach. Coaches must gain their players' respect before the players will listen and truly believe in their coach's philosophy. Hydinger has done that.

Big Ten home court advantage for IU

·

The women's tennis team is hoping homecourt advantage at the Big Ten championships will preclude history from repeating itself. The Hoosiers (5-5) take on Penn State (1-9) in the first round of the conference championship today. In last year's quarterfinal round of the tournament, the Hoosiers fell to the Nittany Lions, 4-2.

New rules mean nothing in playoffs

·

Remember all the talk last summer about the new zone defense that would be allowed by the NBA this season? How point guards would only have eight seconds to bring the ball up the court? The changes were supposed to increase scoring and ball movement, and they did. In the playoffs, though, the teams that benefitted from the rule changes will fall to those teams that did not need to adjust their games at all.

No pressure on lowest seed

·

If the IU men's tennis team can prolong its recent success this weekend, the frustration of a long season will dissipate. But not all of the haunting memories will be erased. At the same time, it is a new season; a chance to make the wrongs right.

Goalie key to team success

·

There are a lot of things that run through a goalkeeper's mind when their team is on defense. They have to direct players where to go and set up the defense. They do all this while watching the ball and preparing themselves to make that split-second decision to stop the ball.

Samples shake down Bluebird

·

Sean Kelly still remembers the first time he drove through Indiana. He remembers it so vividly, in fact, that he wrote a song about it. And last night, in the dark caverns of Bluebird Nightclub, the echoes of frontman Kelly's band, the Samples, still rang throughout the building nearly an hour after they left the stage.

Quintet offers more than jazz

·

"Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art." -- Charlie Parker Michael Burton looks stressed.

Feminist tackles drinking

·

March was Women's History Month; we celebrated the accomplishments of women from the past and encouraged today's women to be the confident and strong leaders of tomorrow. But April brings an abrupt end to the celebration, giving rise to concerns that we -- as feminists and a society in general -- are suffering a setback. The concern is over the reported behavior of campus coeds who choose to indulge in binge drinking.

Little 500 towing unnecessary

·

She saw him from the second story window as she was reapplying her lipstick. She tapped the window with her fist and screamed: "No, don't do that." As soon as she noticed him touching her cherry red 1997 Jetta, she stumbled down the stairs. She sprinted through the crowd of curious bystanders and threw the door open. It became a race: College Kid against Tow Truck Man.

Big bang bald monkey theory

·

Dead week is always strange for me. The combination of a small break from class work and the impending doom of finals seems to really mess up the wiring in my brain. The results can be disastrous.
