Sororities join for funk's sake

This Sunday a greek sponsored philanthropy event will bring two sororities together to benefit children with juvenile diabetes. Sororities Alpha Gamma Delta and Delta Sigma Theta are paired for the first time to put on a talent show, "Bring in the Noise, We've got the Funk," and are showing more than talent.

Horns to hook first national title?

I know it is April now and "America's pastime" has begun, but as we go into Final Four weekend I cannot help but still feel the Madness of March and speculate as to whom will run the table and take home the national title. With a few exceptions, this year's NCAA Tournament had been kind to the higher seeds until the Regional Finals last weekend. All four number one seeds advanced to the Elite Eight for just the fourth time since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985, but Texas was the only top seed to survive and make it to New Orleans.

Rumsfeld says no 'cease fire' in Iraq

WASHINGTON -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Thursday there was "not a chance" that the United States would agree to an arrangement that would halt the war and allow Saddam Hussein to survive. "It doesn't matter who proposes it, there's not going to be one," Rumsfeld told a Pentagon briefing.

US troops surge into Baghdad

U.S. troops surged Thursday into the southern outskirts of Baghdad, attacking its international airport and waging four hours of skirmishes with Iraqi troops determined to protect their capital. Elsewhere, one American was killed by friendly fire, and U.S. officials said Iraqi forces appeared on the verge of collapse.

Israeli troops raid refugee camp

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip -- Israeli troops looking for weapons-smuggling tunnels raided a Gaza refugee camp early Thursday, killing four armed Palestinians in exchanges of fire and demolishing five houses. In the West Bank, two Palestinians, including a 14-year-old boy, were killed by army fire.

Cuba may use force to end armed standoff on ferry boat

HAVANA -- Cuban authorities warned Thursday that force may be needed against armed hijackers who have seized a ferry boat with nearly 50 people on board in a bid to reach U.S. shores. After a 30-mile chase into international waters on Wednesday, the ferry was escorted back to the Cuban port of Mariel, just west of Havana.
