The work of undercover police officers is typically a secret within the halls of a police department, but at noon today, Paul Marcus, Haynes Professor of Law at Virginia's College of William and Mary, will uncover the myths in his lecture, "Undercover Law Enforcement Operations: Word from the street, the police station and the courthouse."

Ex-sorority becomes home for technology

The building at the corner of 10th Street and Woodlawn Avenue is one of the most newly renovated structures on campus. But the property has a storied legacy. The School of Informatics, 901 E. 10th St., was renovated after it was bought two years ago from the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Woman accused of family hoax to be detained in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman accused of misleading a couple into believing she was their missing daughter will not be returned to Kansas despite a judge's ruling that her extradition was improper, an Indiana prosecutor said Wednesday.

IU community confers about presidential race

There may be more than a year before the 2004 presidential election, but the race is already heating up. Newly announced Democratic candidate Gen. Wesley Clark and President George W. Bush are leading recent polls. IU College Republicans President Angel Rivera said he thinks the race will be determined by the two issues that have been at the top of the nation's list in recent years -- the economy and national defense. In the months directly following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the subsequent military action in Afghanistan, Bush enjoyed high approval ratings.

Groups team up for adventure

Two of Bloomington's biggest outdoor activity organizers, Bloomington Parks and Recreation and IU Outdoor Adventures, have teamed up to provide the chance to expand opportunities for IU students and members of the Bloomington community. The groups have come together for the first time to sponsor two fall outdoor adventure trips they hope will reach IU students and Bloomington community members alike. The first joint excursion on Sept. 19-21 was filled to capacity, and leaders are already looking forward to a good turnout for their next joint venture. Seven people have already signed up for Whitewater Canoeing on the Cumberland River, Ky., scheduled for October 17-19. The registration deadline is Oct. 10.
