This year the IU Student Association has resurrected its baby sitter referral service, giving IU students with baby-sitting experience a chance to make a few extra dollars. \n"We act as an intermediary between IU students and parents in the community," Student Body Vice President Grant McFann said. "We give parents a larger pool of service providers and students a chance to find extra work."\nUpon request, the baby-sitting service provides parents in the local community with the names and phone numbers of participating IU students, a summary of their prior baby-sitting experience and their preferred age groups. All potential student baby sitters must pass a screening process conducted by the Department of Student Ethics before being added to the baby sitters list. \n"This is a good service that student government has provided in the past," Student Body President Casey Cox said. "We aren't going to make any money from it, but that's not what IUSA is about."\nThe baby sitter referral service has not been in operation since it was abandoned by a past IUSA administration a year or two ago, Cox said.\nThe program is already in operation, and IUSA said it plans to initiate a marketing push through advertisements in the IDS and local community newspapers soon. Students interested in taking part in the service can sign up in the IUSA office on the third floor of the Student Activities Tower of the Indiana Memorial Union.\nIUSA leads initiative to support IU football\nFreshmen Whitney Nielsen and Annette Tomaszkowicz were the first two winners of the IUSA scholarship raffles, which took place at the IU v. Kentucky and IU v. Indiana State football games. Both were awarded $500 from IUSA.\nMore scholarships will be raffled at each home football game this year. Students can participate by signing up inside the gates at Memorial Stadium on game days.\n"It's really been great," Congressional Secretary Alan Grant said. "We'll keep giving out scholarships and having more functions to provide a great time for students at sports events."\nIUSA will be holding a tailgate/student opinion forum in conjunction with the Student Recreational Sports Association Nov. 8 at the IU v. Illinois game.\n-- Contact staff writer Jake Rossman at jrossman@indiana.edu
