Around the world

Zimbabwe’s foreign minister warned a group of Western diplomats Monday that the government would not hesitate to expel them if they gave support to the opposition. The U.S. ambassador walked out of the meeting, envoys said. Foreign Minister Simearashe Mbengegwi told them that Western embassies had gone too far by offering food and water to opposition activists who were jailed last week.

More than 35 pieces of art will be on display this week in the IU Fine Arts Library Foyer. The exhibit, titled “Romania Redrawn,” features art based on old propaganda photos set out for disposal outside of the Romanian consulate in New York. Romanian artist Irina Hasnas Pascal found the photos and invited other artists to create works inspired by them.

The IU men’s tennis team traveled to Clemson, S.C., with hopes of snapping a three-match losing streak and winless record against nationally ranked opponents. After dropping their two Clemson Invitational matches March 10, the Hoosiers rebounded, upsetting No. 57 Furman and also defeating Wofford on Thursday.

What’s in a size? A lot.

·

In the 1950s, Marilyn Monroe was considered one of the sexiest women in existence. Not only was she glamorous, but she had that find-an-air-vent-and-pose thing totally down. She also had a classic beauty mark that puts Cindy Crawford’s to shame. (That’s not really true. To be honest, I’ve never had beauty mark preferences and I don’t plan on starting now.) She married a host of hotties and even got to sing a steamy version of “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to our nation’s most erotic president, John F. Kennedy. (Yum.)

Wells library west tower expands hours

·

After countless nights of being kicked out of the library’s upper floors at 2 a.m. and having to find somewhere else to go, IU students can stop worrying about having a place to study late into the night. Starting today, the second through fifth floors of the Herman B Wells Library’s west tower will experiment with remaining open 24 hours a day, Sunday through Thursday, until the end of the semester.

Johnson grabs win with late pass on Stewart

·

HAMPTON, Ga. – Jimmie Johnson already has his eye on the big prize. The reigning NASCAR Nextel Cup champion passed Tony Stewart three laps from the end Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway and went on to win his second straight race. “We’re thinking championship already,” said Johnson, only four races into the 36-race season. “That’s really the mode anymore. You have to think about points and being in the top 12 all the time.” Johnson had the car to beat Sunday, leading 132 of the first 238 laps. But the only laps he led the rest of the way in the 325-lap event on Atlanta’s 1.5-mile oval were the last three.

The real deal

·

Everything I need to know about Hollywood can be acquired through one show: “Entourage.” The HBO series depicts the fictional young actor Vinnie Chase, played by Adrian Grenier, and his, well, entourage. This consists of his best friend turned manager, Eric (Kevin Connoly); older brother/ struggling actor/ brother, Johnny, played by Matt Dillon’s brother, Kevin; and childhood friend turned driver, Jerry Ferrara.

Virtual Classroom

Teacher uses online ‘Second Life’ for classes

·

If a student is late to Ball State University instructor Sarah Robbins’ class, chances are he or she didn’t fly there fast enough. Yes, fly. Over the past eight months, Robbins has been teaching her freshman composition course in Second Life, a virtual-reality world that technology enthusiasts are heralding as the future of Internet communication.

IU shows who it is against Bruins

·

Earl Calloway on a breakaway layup, clang. Rod Wilmont on a 3-point attempt, clang. Clang. Clang. Clang all game. Until, suddenly and finally, IU arose from its slumber. This is a team that succeeds, when and only when it’s knocking down shots from the outside. That didn’t happen in the first half of the Hoosiers’ 54-49 loss to UCLA on Saturday.
