Bill passed to pull troops

Though it’s nowhere near the appropriate time for me to officially announce which of the many fine potential presidential candidates I’ll endorse in 2008, there is one among the field that I continually support: Hillary Rodham Clinton. She’s cutthroat. She’s driven. She’s been my girl from day one. Hillary even outranks Nancy Pelosi and Ruth Bader Ginsburg when it comes to my personal holy political trinity. Idolatry, I know, but these three ladies are as fierce and as deserving of admiration.

In Us We (should) Trust

You may have started to notice Indiana license plates popping up with the words “In God We Trust” inscribed underneath a handsome Old Glory flapping in the wind. If you haven’t, and you own a vehicle, perhaps you need to stop in for a regular vision checkup before you get behind the wheel again: this plate is the Next Big Thing. Or perhaps it already is, given its stunning popularity which has made it the most widely sold plate in the state today. Since they were introduced at the beginning of this year more than half a million of these transcendental tags have been distributed.

IU Pools prepare for summer crowd

As the weather warms up, there is anticipation for summer activities. IU provides three pools on campus for the public, IU students, faculty and staff. The two indoor pools are the six-lane Royer Pool at the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Center and the eight-lane, Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatic Center at the Student Recreational Sports Center.

IU alumnus to receive Asia/Pacific American Alumni Award

When Yoshito Kawahara was younger, he was forced to live in an internment camp after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. More than six decades later, Kawahara has made a name for himself as a role model for the Asian community, and for his efforts he will be receiving the second Distinguished Asian/Pacific American Alumni Award, recognizing him for his achievements in the professional world and in his community.

U.S. Officer faces allegations of aiding the enemy

BAGHDAD – A senior U.S. officer has been charged with nine offenses, including aiding the enemy and fraternizing with the daughter of a detainee while he commanded a military police detachment at the American detention facility where Saddam Hussein had been held, the military said Thursday.

Abused children honored at vigil

A crowd sought shelter from the rain Thursday night as 57 T-shirts swung dripping on a clothes line outside. The small shirts featured words such as “gunshot,” “neglect” and “beaten.” They represented the 57 children who died as child abuse victims in the state of Indiana during 2005.

NCAA approves text messaging ban to begin in August

College coaches will have to recruit the old-fashioned way next year. The NCAA’s board of directors approved a ban Thursday to eliminate all text messages from coaches to recruits beginning in August, then left open the possibility of revisiting that legislation as early as 2008.

Indian court issues arrest warrant for Richard Gere

NEW DELHI – A court issued arrest warrants for Hollywood actor Richard Gere and Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty on Thursday, saying their kiss at a public function “transgressed all limits of vulgarity,” media reports said.
