UPDATE: Cutters win 8th Little 500 championship

In a sprint to the finish, the Cutters earned their eighth all-time championship. Cutters junior Alex Bishop beat out riders from Phi Kappa Psi, Dodds House, Black Key Bulls and Team Major Taylor to take the checkered flag.

2-month operation results in arrests of IU students

LSD was discovered by IU Police Department officers Wednesday as the result of a two-month undercover operation. The dealing relationship began in early March, when an undercover officer started buying marijuana from 20-year-old IU student Michael P. Collins at his 312 W. 16th St., said IUPD Detective Dave Hannum. During this period, four purchases were made, including one Wednesday.

IU looks to secure NCAA tourney bid

With its NCAA tournament status uncertain, there is only one formula for the No. 64 IU men’s tennis team: win. The team’s ranking might turn out to be too low to earn a spot in the 64-team field.

IU to challenge Big Ten rivals at match

Tournament time is almost here, but first comes a pit stop. The IU women’s golf team will start postseason play soon, but first the Hoosiers have one more regular season task. On Saturday, they will compete in the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational at the newly renovated Scarlet Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio.

UPDATE: Cutters win 8th Little 500 championship

As predicted by many riders, the 57th running of the Little 500 came down to a final-lap sprint. A pack of five teams were in contention going into the final 10 laps. In the end, Cutters rider Alex Bishop out-sprinted Phi Kappa Psi rider Erik Styacich to the finish line. Dodds House, Black Key Bulls and Team Major Taylor rounded out the top-five.

UPDATE: 3:20 p.m. IU Auditorium announces 2007-08 season

Big-name shows are headed to the IU Auditorium for next year’s lineup. Featuring award-winning musicals, dance performances and an assortment of one-person performances, the season promises to appeal to a variety of audiences.

Men hope race will be closer than last year’s

Every rider in Saturday’s Little 500 wants what senior Dodds House rider Chris Chartier has: a championship ring. With the defending champion Alpha Tau Omega watching the race from the bleachers after failing to qualify, Dodds House is the most recent team in this year’s race to have won a championship. Dodds won the race in 2005.


Freshman Josh Phegley slides into second during an April 17 game against Indiana State. The Hoosiers face Ohio state in away games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

IU hits the road to face Buckeyes

Following Tuesday’s 9-7 loss to Indiana State, IU baseball coach Tracy Smith expressed concern not that his team had lost, but how it lost.

People seem to have a sick fascination with things that are morbid. The consequences of this fascination rarely affect me. At worst, my four-hour drive to Chicago will become a 4 1/2-hour drive because everyone wants to slow down to gawk at a car wreck on the side of the road.

Sunday afternoon, seniors Laura McGaffigan and Cecile Perton will play their final match in Bloomington. The senior co-captains of the IU women’s tennis team have been staples in the team’s lineup since their freshman year, and their importance on and off the court has continued to grow.

If the walls in the Jacobs School of Music could sing this weekend, they would reverberate with remembrance. Friday marks the one-year anniversary of a plane crash just south of the Monroe County Airport that killed five music school students.  One-year anniversary

Vigils held for victims of Va. Tech shootings

Battling cold winds that flickered candles held in remembrance, between 50 and 80 students attended a late-night vigil Wednesday evening outside Eigenmann Hall in memory of the victims of Monday’s shootings at Virginia Tech.

UPDATE: Kappa Delta wins women's Little 500

As the cyclists for Kappa Delta drove from place to place during their spring-break training trip, a photo from the finish of last year’s Little 500 hung in their car. The photo shows then-Kappa Delta senior Lauren Ziemba crossing the finish line a mere inches behind Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Jess Sapp. And at the bottom their coach wrote “2007 will be different. Expect to win.”
