Russian wins harp final

Maria Krushevskaya is finally going home. But now she will be returning to Russia with a $55,000 Lyon and Healy gold concert grand harp and a first-place medal from the USA International Harp Competition. The win also includes thousands of dollars in cash prizes, a CD recording and recitals in New York, London and Taipei.

IU’s Ora L. Wildermuth Intramural Center could be getting more national attention if the Commission on Presidential Debates chooses Bloomington to play host to a 2008 U.S. presidential debate.

Board of trustees still waiting on 4 appointments

Gov. Mitch Daniels has yet to appoint anyone to one of the four trustee positions he is responsible for filling. Four trustees, including one student, were set to take office July 1, but Daniels has not appointed them. This is not the first time he has missed that deadline.

WonderLab event lets visitors ‘think outside the bubble’

Bubbles wafted through a crowd of children, their parents and other adults simply looking for fun as BubbleFest celebrated its 12th annual event Saturday at Frank Southern Center Ice Arena, 1965 S. Henderson St. The event is a collaboration between WonderLab, an interactive museum of health, science and technology located downtown, and the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department.

Ball State may have caused creek pollution

MUNCIE – The Muncie Sanitary District and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management are conducting an investigation to determine whether Ball State University is responsible for pollution in Cardinal Creek, which runs through the campus.

Los Angeles archdiocese to pay $660M in settlement

The nation’s largest Catholic archdiocese has settled its abuse cases for $660 million, by far the largest payout in the church’s sexual abuse scandal, The Associated Press has learned. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the plaintiffs reached the deal Saturday, said Ray Boucher, the lead plaintiff’s attorney.

Senior forward D.J. White is one cut away from making the roster for the American team in the Pan American Games after competing in five trial sessions over the weekend.
