Study: degree not worth tuition dollars

College students are paying more for their degrees but are receiving less of an education, according to a study conducted by the Delta Project on Postsecondary Education Costs, Productivity and Accountability.

A lesson from third grade

My cousin Alana was recently selected to be a “friendship mentor.” She and just a few other third-graders from her elementary school will meet with their counselor regularly to discuss “how to have a friend and be one.” This is an honor for my cousin, who is my extended family’s token sweetheart. Her teachers recognized her as a good person and good friend.

The digital revolution is coming, and surprisingly, we’re not ready. Though President Obama called for a delay of the digital television transition from Feb. 17 to June 12 and the Senate passed the bill, the House voted it down, giving Americans less than one month to get ready.

Work slow to restore power in Southern Indiana

Marijuana musical brings ‘high’ art to John Waldron Arts Center

For marijuana smokers and musical lovers alike, Friday’s opening of “Reefer Madness: The Musical” at the John Waldron Arts Center aims to incorporate sarcasm and catchy numbers to humor showgoers.The satirical musical finds its roots in the 1930s cult morality film called “Tell Your Children,” which warns parents of the dangers of marijuana.

11 Jacobs’ students advance in contest

Eleven Jacobs School of Music students are semi-finalists in the Latin American Music Center’s annual competition, Performance of Music from Spain and Latin America. The semifinal competition begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, but is not open to the public. The final competition, however, is free and open, taking place 6 p.m. Sunday in the Merrill Hall Recital Hall.
