IU sweeps Monday doubleheader vs. Wildcats

Maybe the IU baseball team should play more Monday doubleheaders. With weekend weather conditions forcing the Hoosiers to play a Big Ten twin bill, IU (13-13, 3-5) took two games, 5-4 and 5-2, from Northwestern to split the four-game series with the Wildcats.

Dyngus daze

Two Belgian draft horses pulling an authentic beer wagon entered the Yogi’s Grill and Bar parking lot at 5 p.m. Monday. The wagon is filled with Dyngus Day party-goers and kegs of Lebowski Lager from Upland Brewery. After arriving, the beer and the party-goers made a quick exit off the wagon and into the bar to get the party started.

The 'perfect' business

At age 14 I was an up-and-coming entrepreneur. I had just spent several years running a successful video-game company but was ready for a new challenge. My goal was to find the perfect business. This business would be easy to start and manage, highly profitable and encounter no competition. I tried many different industries. Among them were the travel, jewelry and vending industry. But something was wrong. Within every industry, different and often unexpected problems arose. No matter how well-thought-out my plan, I was still not able to find the perfect business.

A Klan to march

You don’t like them and neither do we, but it’s OK because they don’t like anyone, either. Still, if we’re allowed to publicly denounce the Ku Klux Klan, stopping only short of libel, then they have to be allowed to march in downtown Bloomington.

Summer music and you

On Saturday night, I got my first preview of what my summers are generally full of – a show that blew my mind. Umphrey’s McGee played at the Murat Egyptian Room in Indianapolis this weekend for the purpose of recording an upcoming live album, which I intend to purchase the day it comes out. I want to give you hope that there is a band playing somewhere nearby this summer that will consume you the way I was consumed Saturday night.

IU ranks 17th in private funding

Of 1,014 institutions, IU ranked 17th overall in private funding in 2006, according to the Council for Aid to Educationwhich compiles a yearly list ranking schools based on private-sector funding.

Police investigating sexual battery case at Bloomington strip club

Bloomington Police are investigating a sexual battery case that occurred Sunday morning at a strip club. A waitress at Night Moves, 1730 S. Walnut St., told officers that while she was working, a man asked her if she remembered him, said Detective Sgt. Jeff Canada,reading from the police report.

U. of Illinois student invents slide rule widget, wins award

On a warm day a student might see Greg Schechter riding his unicycle to class. Once inside the classroom, the professor might catch Schechter, a sophomore engineering student, using a slide rule on one of his computer science tests. Recently, Schechter adapted the slide rule to the computer screen and won first place with his invention of a slide rule widget at the first Yahoo! University Hack Days.

Here’s what I don’t like about America. We never take it to the extreme. I wish, just once, this country could crack a Dew the size of Canada, slam it while snowboarding down South America, and launch that into a reverse slam dunk over Australia. Now that would be extreme.
