Jens Lekman will play an acoustic set at the Waldron

Spirit of ’68 Promotions, a Bloomington-based promotions company, announced that Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman will be playing an acoustic set at 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at the John Waldron Arts Center. The show, which will seat 100 people, is in addition to Lekman’s 9 p.m. performance scheduled that same night at Jake’s Night Club and Bar.

Tickets available for next week’s Governor’s Arts Awards

The 2007 Governor’s Arts Awards ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Musical Arts Center. Tickets are available for both the ceremony and the celebration dinner immediately following at the Bloomington Convention Center. The ceremony will feature special performances from three of the six honorees.

The atmosphere of the night is in their control. Everyone knows they’re in the bar, but it’s not their goal to stand out as a person; they let their music do the talking. Dozens of disc jockeys flood the Bloomington bar scene with their live mixes and sets every week, but a select few really know how to get a crowd going. Students weigh in on Sampson’s NCAA violations

Sanctions won’t sway Zeller’s choice

Police say apprehended suspect is a 27-year-old IU student

Police have taken one person in custody following a lockdown at the 1300 block of West Arch Haven. Police say they apprehended the suspect between 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., but continued the lockdown of the area until they were sure the man apprehended was the suspect. Police have now cleared the apartment building and have seized two assault rifles - an AK-47 and AR-15 - on the roof of the complex. Detectives are continuing the investigation, and police have not yet released the name of the suspect.
