Longform

Eyeliner and swoopy haircuts: the perfect combination for electropop.

Gunning down bad techno music

·

Shiny Toy Guns bring their own version of electronica to the pop/rock music scene from Shawnee, Okla., once again with their second album Season of Poison, proving their style of music isn’t just for the dance floor. In 2005 the band released their first album We Are Pilots, featuring the song “You Are the One” along with two other singles.

“Let’s make out to the music you can’t hear on my iPod.”

Songs on ‘Twilight’ don’t suck

·

This album is a sign for the immense success that should come with this film. It’s dark and violent yet somehow maintains the sense of pure, everlasting love. There is no question this soundtrack is one of the better ones that have been attached to a movie this huge in recent memory.

This album might be a split, but Thursday dominates Envy for sure.

Screamo’s pioneers grow up

·

One thing becomes instantly clear the second you hit play on Thursday’s new release: The era of the band’s 2006 album A City By The Light Divided is finally over.

Isolating herself from the world worked out pretty well for Frida Hyvönen

Hyvönen breaks the silence

·

Remaining in solitude for a year may have induced an artistic awakening in Hyvönen, but after hearing Silence is Wild, listeners will surely hope that her powerful presence will remain seen, not hidden.

Blindness can’t keep Andrea down.

Casting a spell

·

Although tenor Andrea Bocelli is hailed as a crossover singer able to comfortably mesh both classical and modern music, his latest endeavor Incanto lacks the addictive quality that has made this Italian artist’s former albums so popular.

Instrumentals belong in country music like Brad Paisley needs a hot wife.

OK music, no lyrics

·

Paisley’s new album Play contains none of the witty, touching or otherwise relatable lyrics that make his music so endearing.

Someone should let Sam Jackson know that he looks like a moron anytime he's not bald.

A 'Soul'-ful tribute

·

Heath Ledger isn't the only posthumous actor to deliver a strong performance this year. On Aug. 9,  Bernie Mac passed away, but not before completing work on his latest film “Soul Men.”

Bartender Drew Johnson makes an AMF on Nov. 8 at The Upstairs Pub.

What's in a name?

·

Everyone knows what ‘AMF’ stands for, but hardly anyone knows what’s in one

Group hugs between friends are the best.

Animated animals gone wild

·

Although it lacks a solid plot, “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” is an enjoyable film that includes loads of laughs. It makes it easy to get lost in the animated world and pretend you’re a child. It’s not the best animated film to come down the pike, but it’s definitely well worth the price of admission.

"Yes, we are sisters, get over it.

One of 2008's best films

·

“Rachel Getting Married” is a fantastic and gripping piece of cinema, one of the most real and emotionally moving films I have ever seen.

Paul Rudd probably finds it difficult hanging with both McLovin and Stifler.

'Models' worth looking up to

·

Despite its ridiculous premise (why would you put criminals in charge of kids?), “Role Models” delivers some smart, extremely funny moments while not devolving too much into low-brow comedy.
