Lake Co. early retirement plans draws only 20

CROWN POINT, Ind. — Fewer than 20 full-time Lake County employees have applied for an early retirement package despite the county's threat to eliminate 150 full-time government jobs by the end of the year.

Generations of street preachers have stood at its base, proclaiming the sins of IU students. And while we can walk away after we’ve had our share, the clock can’t. It’s stuck.

While the fall of the Berlin Wall was certainly a momentous occasion at the time and continues to be a great victory for the global community, it is important that we not gloss over the deep divisions and complications that were created both by the Wall and its downfall.
