D.J. White to join young Seattle team

It did not take long for D.J. White’s first NBA trade. The Detroit Pistons drafted White with the 29th pick of the first round in Thursday’s 2008 NBA draft, but quickly dealt the Big Ten Player of the Year to the Seattle SuperSonics for the rights to two second-round picks, Walter Sharpe and Trent Plaisted.

Every time I log onto Facebook I become increasingly concerned about the state of our world. The romantic failings of my acquaintances are announced to me by an icon of a broken heart, nobody gives a second thought to revealing their home address anymore, and I have application invitations from people who want to numerically rank my personality and attractiveness against that of my other friends.

I believe it something of a virtue to be willing to change your mind about what candidate you’re voting for this late into the election. That being said, I find it highly likely that come November I will cast my ballot for Barack Obama. Given the liberal skew of our age demographic and the activity I have seen around campus, I doubt I will be alone.

For comedy lovers, the last two weekends have been plagued by sadness, as “The Love Guru” and “Get Smart” reminded viewers of all that is wrong with American comedies. Now don’t get me wrong – there is definitely a place for ridiculous movies.

Goodbye, Greenspan

We expected it, but not like this. After the first report of former basketball coach Kelvin Sampson’s recruiting infractions and the resulting wave of controversy, many wished Director of Athletics Rick Greenspan would resign as well. But he weathered the storm and its initial fury, only to make it to a point in the time line of the scandal relatively tame in comparison to what preceded it.
