An ignorant trend

We are entitled to our own opinions, but we need to respect and understand that many people hold opposing views – and that is OK. It’s part of what makes us American. Shouting out “Liar!” as our President addresses the nation isn’t getting us anywhere. Similarly, me reacting to an upsetting article that spewed out ignorant generalizations wouldn’t be very productive.

Ethnic Food Fair serves up culture on a platter

The United Presbyterian Church will provide good food, good fun and good fellowship at the tenth-annual Ethnic Food Fair  on Saturday. The church, located three blocks South of Forest Quad, will open its doors from 5 to 7 p.m.

Women's soccer beats Butler on late goal

A late goal by freshman forward Orianica Velasquez-Herrera was all the No. 22 Hoosiers needed to ensure a 1-0 victory over Butler (3-5) on Wednesday night. The win pushed IU to 7-1 in non-conference play, the best start in the history of IU women’s soccer.

Eli Lilly and Company announced Monday that it will cut $1 billion from its expenses by the end of 2011 in an effort to accelerate production and deliver medicine to patients faster.

Melvin Simon, co-owner of the Indiana Pacers, co-founder and chairman emeritus of the Simon Property Group that owns Campus Mall and major philanthropist to IU, died Wednesday morning at the age of 82.

Former IU president Myles Brand dies

NCAA president and former IU president Myles Brand died Wednesday. Brand, 67, had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He died in his home in Indianapolis.

Cyclist invade Avenida Paulista

Last Friday, the bicycle-enthusiast and activist group Bicicletada took to the streets of Sao Paulo in order to spread awareness and support of bicycle use in the city, or as Bicicletada participant Paulo Jabardo put it, “To show that we are traffic, too.”

In the U.S. if I want to purchase something, I walk into the nearest Target, pick up the item, and then pay for it. I never thought I’d be one to haggle.
