Hoosiers' winning season ends with loss in Big Ten Tourney
IU rebounded recently from its only losing season in coach Bob Morgan's 19 years as head coach by going 35-20 (15-14 in the Big Ten) compared to last year's 24-31-1 (7-19 in the Big Ten) record. Its season came to an end after beating Iowa and losing to Ohio State and Michigan State last weekend at the Big Ten Tournament.
Russia acknowledged as a market economy
Russian President Vladimir Putin, taking a tougher approach than he had in meetings with President Bush and NATO leaders, won a major victory Wednesday as the European Union agreed to recognize Russia as a market economy. Relations between Russia and its biggest trading partner, however, remained tense with the Kremlin fearing EU expansion into Central Europe could further isolate Kaliningrad, Russia's Baltic enclave, separated from the rest of the country by Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus.

Commission looks to find more results on alcohol usage
In previous years, incoming students attending an orientation program throughout the summer merely viewed a video about alcohol and drug prevention. Starting in June, freshmen will see the results of a five-year effort by IU officials, which includes vignettes presented during orientation programs and information distributed in registration packets.

Symposium to focus on society's decision-making
June 2-5, the 9th International Symposium on Society and Resource Management will be hosted by the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and the Department of Recreation and Park Administration at IU. The symposium will consist of presentations and discussions on government policy making, environmental concerns and various other issues relating to natural resource management.
