Cinemat keeping downtown location

Although The Cinemat was in danger of closing over the summer, it is now here to stay. On July 20, the 5-year-old Cinemat was put on the market by owner Steve Volan, but at the end of August, he decided to keep the Cinemat running.

IU seeks to stop 3-game losing streak today at home

Today, the IU men’s soccer team hopes to break out of its worst losing streak since 2000 when the team takes on unranked in-state foe Butler at 7 p.m. at Bill Armstrong Stadium. IU coach Mike Freitag said he knows it doesn’t take much to lose a game but also said he thinks his team has refocused.

Bloomington Hospital: no lab results that confirm diphtheria

The initial shock Tony Berger received when he said a nurse at Bloomington Hospital told him he was being treated as though he had diphtheria has slightly subsided. Bloomington Hospital cannot confirm a preliminary diagnosis of Berger and has not had any reported cases of diphtheria in 2007, said Amanda Roach, media relations coordinator for Bloomington Hospital.

New committee to assess ideal student living

IU President Michael McRobbie announced the formation of a student steering committee that will submit reports in the spring on various aspects of student life. The steering committee will lead five subcommittees focused on specific areas, including the intellectual and social environments, on- and off-campus housing and student support services.

Virginia licenses not valid at Big Red

In the last year Big Red Liquors provided its liquid services to more than 2 million customers, said Wade Shanower, president of Big Red Liquors. Unfortunately, Shanower said, people with Virginia licenses can no longer be among the liquor store’s satisfied customers.

Hoosiers looking to bounce back defensively against the Hawkeyes

At Saturday’s 27-14 loss to Illinois, rows of IU fans had left the game before the final seconds ticked off. As the players looked to the stands to gain some sort of inspiration to make a comeback, for the first time this year they saw empty seats and defeated fans.

Bush challenges U.N. to promote democracy
