IU professor turns ancient artifacts into enchanting art

Digital artist Margaret Dolinsky’s says her favorite part of her job is “exploring the creative uses of digital technology with students.” Dolinsky a professor in the school of Fine Arts, was recently named the 2008 Outstanding Educator in Science, Engineering and Technology by the organization women and Hi Tech.

Three freshmen football players face charges

An IU freshman football player was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, public intoxication and resisting arrest after police found him passed out in a McNutt Residence Center stairwell.

Guard, Reserve troop suicides alarm Congress

More than half of all veterans who took their own lives after returning from Iraq or Afghanistan were members of the National Guard or Reserves, according to new government data that prompted activists on Tuesday to call for a closer examination of the problem.

Speaker threatens to disband Iraq’s parliament

The speaker of Iraq’s fragmented parliament threatened Tuesday to disband the legislature, saying it is so riddled with distrust it appears unable to adopt the budget or agree on a law setting a date for provincial elections.

Guns blazin'

There are some issues, such as illegal immigration, that Democrats won’t even touch with a 10-foot pole. No issue proves to be as divisive for the party, however, as gun control. Indeed, the last serious debate over gun violence occurred more than 15 years ago with the passage of the Brady Bill.

Donation discrimination

Do you have a history of intravenous drug abuse? Have you lived in countries where there have been outbreaks of Mad Cow Disease? Do you have syphilis? Are you a man who has had sex with a man at any time since 1977? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you cannot donate blood in the United States. Yet, answering “yes” to one of these questions doesn’t indicate the risk one might normally suspect.
