Statewide council forms to discuss economic development

IU has created a University-wide engagement council as part of its “Innovate Indiana” initiative.The council will connect all the campuses and their communities as well as be a forum to discuss regional economic issues. It will have economic development representatives from eight IU campuses in three offices located throughout the state.The council will identify how IU can bring together resources and expertise to improve economic development efforts in the state, said David Gard, executive director of engagement. He added that the first meeting on March 5 will discuss opportunities and challenges at the regional level.Bill Stephan, IU vice president for engagement, will be chairman for the newly created IU Council on Regional Engagement and Economic Development. Members of the council will be appointed by the chancellors of each regional campus.“Innovate Indiana” aims to channel IU’s resources to strengthen the economy and organize activities across the state to connect the state’s business to the country and the world.— MJ Slaby

ATLANTA — After days of controversy over a white group’s win in a step competition, sponsor Coca-Cola said Thursday the second-place team, IU's Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, will share top honors. A YouTube video of the winning performance by a group of Zeta Tau Alphas from the University of Arkansas generated hundreds of comments, some of them inflammatory.
