At its heart, “Fringe” is a show about the unknown and the many different ways it can kill you.The show’s first episode carefully crafts the “Fringe” universe, but the show runs into problems with what does in that universe.

How I learned to stop worrying and love the movies

In terms of being a real professional, I am by no means a “film buff” yet. I am well informed, but what I have accomplished is not far from anyone’s reach.Aside from just being more intelligent, aware and knowledgeable about life and the popular culture that surrounds it, truly intelligent film conversations are things I don’t usually have, and they would be nice.  It gets lonely here at the top.

Joel McHale goes back to school

Joel McHale’s having a big week. “The Soup” host appears in the new Matt Damon film “The Informant!” opening Friday and his new NBC comedy “Community” starts at 9:30 p.m. WEEKEND’s Cory Barker and Chad Quandt recently had the opportunity to participate in a conference call with McHale, who discussed, among other things, the amazing comedic performers around him on “Community” and his future on “The Soup.”

The movie is based on Max’s collection of short stories by same name, specifically the one titled “The Austin Road Trip.”

Melvin Simon, co-owner of Pacers, dies at 82

Melvin Simon, the son of a New York City tailor who started what is now the country's largest shopping mall company and owned the NBA's Indiana Pacers with his brother, died Wednesday, a spokesman said. He was 82.

IU’s student-run radio station, WIUX LP 99.1 FM, has survived the first round of elimination to be in mtvU’s  top 50 college radio stations.

Student season ticket sales pass 6,000

IU Athletics Director Fred Glass announced Tuesday that the department has sold more than 6,000 student section season ticket passes, which hasn’t happened since 2006.
