Bloomington residents pay the price at the pump

Bloomington drivers are paying the most at the pump in the state of Indiana. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel May 8 was $4.21 — higher than anywhere else in the state — according to data compiled daily by AAA.

Cell phones to be protected under Do-not-call registry

A new bill passed unanimously by the Indiana General Assembly would allow cell phone users to place their phone numbers on the state’s do-not-call registry to avoid telemarketing calls. A similar registry is already in place for landline phones.

Parts of HPER will be closed this summer

The Wildermuth Intramural Center of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building will be closed from May 9 to Aug. 15 as the building’s roof undergoes repairs.


Obama in Indianapolis

Obama encourages hybrid technology in Ind.

Obama visited the Indianapolis transmission plant to encourage the production of alternative fuel sources — specifically hybrid technology. Guests included Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and U.S. Congressman André Carson, D-7th District.

Phoenix Comics to participate in nationwide Free Comic Book Day

Free Comic Book Day might sound too good to be true, but it most certainly is not. On the first Saturday of May every year, local comic book stores around the country give away comics to anyone who walks into the store. It’s both a celebration of the genre for current fans and a way for aspiring fans to better discover the world of comics.

The first IU commencement was held in 1830. There were only four graduates: James Wilson Dunn, Michael Hummer, James Sidney Rollins and William Hamilton Stockwell. This year, IU Bloomington will award 8,562 degrees. Photos are credited to IU Archives.
