Dar Williams impresses Bloomington crowd

You wouldn't have expected the musical experiences the audience felt at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre Tuesday night. Or rather, you wouldn't have expected it if you had never heard Dar Williams perform. Of course, you also would have been completely stunned by the end of the night. This was certainly a performance to remember for everyone who was able to be there.

Hillel brings Jewish music to Bloomington

The music from "Fiddler on the Roof" is probably the only Jewish music some people have heard. But this coming Saturday, the Helene G. Simon Hillel Center hopes to bring a wider variety of Jewish music to the Bloomington community with its annual Evening of Jewish Music.

IU music students \'go for Baroque\'

A woman with a slight frame and striking similarity to the host of "Trading Spaces" stands at the center stage of Auer Hall, surrounded by a semi-circle of students playing odd-looking instruments. She clasps and unclasps her hands while their musical notes slide and poke at the space around her, about to signal her to start singing. When her cue arrives, she unleashes a handsome, mellifluous voice for a song that demands an impressive vocal range.

Labor Day may be a day off in the fall

Faculty and students share the same perennial gripe each fall: Why are there classes on Labor Day? It's not unusual for IU to receive over a thousand complaints about this one calendar issue in a year.

Siblings Weekend returns

After a three-year absence, Siblings Weekend is making its return to IU April 12-14. Students' siblings, cousins and friends ages 13 and older are are invited to attend this two-and-a-half-day event. The IU Student Association and the Residence Halls Association, the two organizations overseeing the weekend, have scheduled a full weekend of events with Saturday, April 13 holding the main attractions. The day's events include a carnival, tours of Assembly Hall, a concert and a casino night in the Foster Quad formal lounge.

Israeli tanks enter West Bank city

BETHLEHEM, West Bank -- Israeli tanks rolled into the West Bank's largest city, Nablus, on Wednesday and elsewhere laid siege to a refugee camp, battling Palestinians who barricaded entrances and fought back with bombs and guns. Troops also encircled Palestinian gunmen holed up in the church marking Jesus' birthplace.

Baseball falls 5-4

After a successful weekend taking three out of four games against Big Ten opponent Illinois, the IU baseball team headed to Indiana State to take on the Sycamores. The team was unable to carry the momentum of the weekend into Wednesday night's game and fell 5-4 in 10 innings.

Pole vaulter has Olympic aspirations

Four years ago was the beginning of men's track and field coach Marshall Goss' career at IU. It also happened to be the first year for senior pole-vaulter Dino Efthimiou. Coach Goss and Efthimiou are a large part of the reason why the Hoosiers have returned to the Big Ten's elite.

Colts coach to speak at clinic

This Saturday at 10 a.m. in Assembly Hall, Indianapolis Colts head coach, Tony Dungy, will be speaking at the IU Football Coaches Clinic. All IU students who wish to see Dungy speak may attend for free with a student ID. Dungy will be one of the speakers for the April 5-6 clinics, to which coaches throughout the Midwest are invited.

Freshman gets his chance

Softball team plagued by errors

Defensive miscues cost the IU softball team another close game yesterday as they fell 5-4 in nine innings to Louisville. The teams were slated to play a doubleheader, but played just one game in expectance of inclement weather.

While Mike Davis was challenging his players to a sprint that ended with a hamstring injury for Davis, assistant coach John Treloar was telling the Hoosiers something he had noticed.
