Students' cars collide, SUV rolls

An automobile wreck Thursday evening involving two IU students left a hefty cleanup for police and fire units and two students shaken by the incident. IUPD Officer Shannon Bunger was dispatched to the scene at 7:54 p.m.

Golfers get final pre-conference tune-up

Michigan stands in way of victory

Michigan has won five titles this year in tournaments in which the IU women's golf team has competed. This weekend, the Hoosiers are hoping to overcome Michigan's dominating season in the tournament that matters most. All of the Big Ten schools compete today through Sunday in the conference tournament in Champaign, Ill.

The IU men's tennis team couldn't quite get the job done against No. 6 Michigan at the Big Ten Championships Thursday. The No. 11 Hoosiers lost 4-2 in Columbus, Ohio, at the Stickney Tennis Center. Senior Milan Rakvica won at the No. 1 position for IU, beating the Wolverines' Henry Beam 7-6(2), 6-4.

Conference fate might lie on series

The Hoosiers head to Minnesota this weekend for a crucial series with the Golden Gophers. IU needs to win the four-game series to stay close to first-place Ohio State, which has a two-game lead over IU and Michigan State. The Hoosiers and Spartans are 9-6 in conference, and Minnesota follows in fourth place with one less win.

Search for first conference win continues

Going into its final weekend of Big Ten competition, the IU softball team is still in search of its first win in conference play. The Hoosiers play host to both Penn State and Ohio State for two games apiece this weekend.

Track teams off to big meets

The last weekend in April is an important time for the IU track and field teams. The men will be attending two meets, while the women attend three. Both teams will travel to the Drake Relays in Iowa and the Purdue Relays, and the women are also attending the Penn Relays. The Penn Relays is one of the biggest meets of the year. Talented athletes from all over the country come to compete. It isn't only a collegiate meet, either. The best high school runners in the country and relay teams from around the world also compete.

Arctic drilling not part of Senate-approved bill

WASHINGTON -- The Senate passed an energy bill Thursday that features tax breaks to conserve and produce energy and directs more use of ethanol but rejects the Bush administration proposal to develop oil in an Arctic wildlife refuge.

Dead week not so dead

This semester has been so bad I issued a warning to myself scrawled across my planner in bright red letters: "LOOK AT NEXT WEEK!!!". I have two papers and two exams to contend with, one after another, and I didn't want them sneaking up on me. All of that work adds up to one brutal week. Granted, not an impossible week, but my personal stress-meter is in the red nonetheless.

EVANSVILLE -- A handful of Indiana airports have teamed up to recruit an intrastate airline. Airport directors in Evansville, Gary, South Bend, Lafayette and Terre Haute have each agreed to pay $8,000 to $9,000 for grant application preparation fees in hopes of obtaining federal funding to attract an airline.

'Cabaret' thrills, chills

IU musical group releases CD

Alum awarded $15,000

IU alumnus Twyla Robinson, a soprano, has been named among the winners of the Metropolitan Opera Competition. The competition, which began in October 2001, involved several thousand students from Canada, the United States and Australia. District, regional, semifinal and final competition narrowed the field to 10 competitors for the award. Five people were awarded this year.

Students get taste of 'Real World'

Sex and drugs -- Real World style. Last night, an estimated 400 students spent two hours asking questions and receiving frank, and at times explicit, answers from two former cast members. Disclaimers posted on the doors to Alumni Hall warned all those entering the event that opinions given were not representative of the Union Board.

Upkeep a challenge with cuts
