Top teams await on West Coast road trip

During spring break the Hoosier water polo team will embark on a seven game road trip traveling to six different cities in California and one in Arizona. The stretch includes games against three top ten opponents and one top 20 opponent. IU will start the road trip by playing No. 10 University of California-San Diego. The Hoosiers are winless in two games against the Tritons in their history. IU then has Saturday off before playing Redlands on Sunday, a squad the Hoosiers are 3-0 against. The Hoosiers will participate in the California State-San Bernandino Coyote Classic on Sunday. There, the Hoosiers will square off with Laverne and Cal State-San Bernandino. IU has never played either team. The following day, the Hoosiers will face No. 9 San Diego State and No.19 Arizona State for the first time.

Smoking ban double-dutch

If the proposed smoking ban passes as is, it will eliminate smoking in bars and restaurants but not in private clubs. According to the proposed ordinance, a private club is defined as a nonprofit organization whose members are either part of a nationally recognized fraternal organization, have served in the armed forces or are joined together for a common purpose.

More bad publicity plagues Martinsville

The recent discovery of Jill Behrman's remains near Martinsville, which was confirmed Thursday, adds another page to the city's long record of bad publicity. Bones belonging to Behrman were discovered Sunday by a hunter near Paragon, Ind., located just outside Martinsville. The FBI, University of Indianapolis anthropologists and an IU-Purdue University Indianapolis forensic odontologist confirmed the identity of the remains Thursday from dental records.

Hot hitting prevails in cold weather

It was a tale of three innings as the IU baseball team amassed 16 runs in three frames to defeat DePauw 17-1 on a cold Thursday afternoon at Sembower Field. The Hoosiers scored four, five, and seven runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings, respectively, to subdue the Tigers.

Men send two to NCAA Indoor Championships

The track and field indoor season concludes this weekend with the NCAA Championship in Fayetteville, Ark. The Hoosiers were able to qualify two individuals. Sophomore Aarik Wilson qualified in both the long and triple jump and sophomore John Jefferson made the field in the mile.

US forces survive ambush

BAGRAM, Afghanistan -- Attackers firing machine guns ambushed a convoy of U.S. special forces in eastern Afghanistan, prompting a fierce barrage from U.S. troops and coalition aircraft that killed five enemy fighters Wednesday, an Army spokesman said.

Coach could gain four titles at Arkansas this weekend

This weekend, the IU track and field team will send three of its top athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., in hopes of bringing home titles in four events. Senior Rachelle Boone is competing in the 60- and 200-meter dashes, senior Danielle Carruthers is entered in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles, and senior Rose Richmond is competing in the long jump.

PNEI HEVER, West Bank -- Israeli forces backed by a helicopter gunship mistakenly shot and killed two Israelis they believed to be Palestinian gunmen Thursday, the army said, and four Palestinians were killed in another incident.
