Hoosiers win 5-set thriller over IPFW

After this weekend's tournament in Arlington, Texas, the IU women's volleyball team returned home to face IU-Purdue University Fort Wayne Tuesday. In a match where neither team was able to get on track, the Hoosiers won in thrilling fashion in five games, 30-32, 30-16, 24-30, 30-22, 15-11. Both the Hoosiers and the Mastodons played inconsistently throughout, with neither team able to put the other away.

2-0 Hoosiers prepare for annual border war with Kentucky Saturday

Schools shuffling dollars to support special education

FORT WAYNE -- A look inside Marcia Rayl's special education preschool classroom at Arcola Elementary School reveals a brightly decorated learning wonderland. In one corner, eight chairs form a semicircle around a board plastered with a huge red apple and a calendar. Another corner is filled with wooden toy trucks, colored plastic blocks and toy model farms and dollhouses.

Arson in Gary draws FBI probe

GARY -- Federal agents joined the investigation of an arson that damaged a newly constructed Habitat for Humanity home in a predominantly white neighborhood a week before a black family was to move in. Agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on Monday joined Gary police in investigating the fire that damaged the home in the Black Oak neighborhood early Saturday. The fire was ruled to be arson.

Kelly, COAS students receive scholarships

Last year 556,500 Americans lost their battles with cancer. When we're emotionally uncomfortable as people, we try to find mental safety nets to give us the comfort we are seeking. I have a pretty good friend lying in the Bloomington Hospital oncology ward right now, and he's been there most of the summer.

The other day while channel surfing in my underwear, I came across an interesting segment dedicated to the dung beetle on the Discovery Channel. According to the program, the Larvae Dung beetle, commonly referred to by entomologists as L-D, is one of the most important insects on the face of the earth. Their job, or doody-duty so to speak, is to scavenge the earth looking for animal feces to bury in the soil.

An e-mail sent to conservative Republicans across the state invited them to join "... candidate for governor, Mitch Daniels, in a meeting he has called to meet with leaders of Indiana's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community".

Buskirk screens film competition

The first page of the program for the annual Manhattan Short Film Festival boldly announces that this year is "undoubtedly the most exciting year in the festival's history." With a total of 621 entrants, the most in the festival's history, each of the 12 finalists has been chosen for public viewing out of hundreds of internationally submitted films, as well as American films.
