Bennett hopes experienced roster leads to wins, tourney appearance

Returning this year for her fifth year at the helm of IU women's basketball is head coach Kathi Bennett. Bennett, in her 17th season as a collegiate head coach, will look to improve on last year's 12-17 record as she returns 11 letter winners from last season.

Davis faces pressure in 5th season as Hoosier head man

Coming into his fifth season as head coach of the men's basketball team, IU coach Mike Davis has his work cut out for him. Not only are some IU fans still bitter at the firing of former coach Bob Knight by former IU and current NCAA president Myles Brand, but last season's 14-15 record and a missed trip to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 18 seasons, just added salt to their wounds.

McGraw wins Song of the Year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - "Live Like You Were Dying," a song that became the biggest hit of Tim McGraw's career, won song of the year at the Country Music Association awards Tuesday night. Written by Tim Nichols and Craig Wiseman, the song spent much of last summer at No. 1.

Big careers come from small school

The building at 1127 Atwater Ave. looks like any other student house. An old front porch leads into a small living room, and creaky wooden stairs lead to the bedrooms and bathroom on the upper level. But this isn't just any other students' house -- it's the school of social work. "When I go to parties and people ask 'What's your major,' I tell them social work, and they're always like, 'What? Sociology?'" said freshman Jana Gillespie.

Sophomore hopes Internet will take him far

Dyer, a native of Washington, Ind., is the Webmaster and main creative force behind www.duckmustard.com, a humor Web site in the same vein as www.ebaumsworld.com or the site of Internet humorist Maddox.

Enrollment down in Collins classes

Unique classes offered by Collins Living-Learning Center are facing low enrollment in the upcoming semester due in part to the switch from printed to electronic course listings, said Catherine Hawkes, Collins assistant director. The new system, which replaced the paper catalog, makes it harder for students to find out about the seminars not taught anywhere else on campus.

Team boasts abundance of experience

Coming off a season where the Hoosiers women's basketball team finished 12-17 and had everyone returning, expectations were high -- then an injury occurred. Senior guard/forward Jenny DeMuth tore her anterior cruciate ligament within two hours of the season starting. How the team responds from the injury will be a test IU must pass in order to make it to the NCAA tournament.
