The world’s other great college weekend

What would college sports be like without scholarships, alumni, multimillion-dollar facilities or coaches who rake in more per year than state governors? What if college sports were exclusively for the students? Would the competition be as fierce? Would the students cheer as hard? Would the outcome even matter?

Fear is a myth

An amazing friend and mentor to all of us here at the Indiana Daily Student passed away Saturday. David Adams, director of student media, died from causes yet unknown. His job title and description cannot begin to describe the many duties this great man did for student media nationwide.

Adams remembered as warm-hearted

Ten poster boards with pictures lined a hallway that more than 100 people passed through on their way to pay their respects to the man many simply knew as “Dadams.”

‘As I Lay Dying’ an apt title

I started reading William Faulkner’s “As I Lay Dying” more than a week ago. I would consider myself a pretty fast reader, so a novel with fewer than 300 pages should have been a two- or three-day endeavor for me. However, since I had to keep reading and rereading chapters in an attempt to make sense of them, it took me more than a week to get to the middle of the book.

Tony Sams, editorial adviser and production director at the Indiana Daily Student, explained at one point last week that many hearts were broken after the unexpected loss of IU Student Media Director David Adams, referring to a quote from “The Wizard of Oz,” one of Adams’ favorite movies.
