We the Kings

Too smiley

·

We The Kings are brought of the latest swell of power pop bands (Boys Like Girls, The Maine) that have made it kind-of big recently, but they’re certainly the worst of the lot. Every single one of their songs sounds and leaves you feeling exactly the same.

princess

A match made in marketing

·

Well, it certainly isn’t “The Lion King”. Disney’s latest hand animated venture, “The Princess and the Frog” is their first non-CGI film since the disastrous “Home on the Range” of 2004. While Disney would have you believe that this is the return of the classic animated films of yesteryear, it is a transparent attempt to add an African-American princess to all their merchandise.

30 Seconds to Mars

This is lame

·

30 Seconds to Mars, actor Jared Leto’s band, haven’t released an album in four years, and during that time they were seemingly being “reborn” both spiritually and musically – as a mediocre band.

Public enemies

Depp powers 'Enemies'

·

Producing period piece films are always tricky. Producing period piece films with good, realistic action sequences is even trickier. But with his examination of infamous Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger, director/writer Michael Mann has gotten nearly everything right.

Invictus

Convincing performances save 'Invictus'

·

I enjoyed Clint Eastwood’s Nelson Mandela biopic that is really about rugby, not Mandela, in the same way I might’ve still enjoyed “Slumdog” if it was actually about “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”

IU Essence

IU Essence dancers shine on campus

·

Without official sponsorship from the University, Essence has been managed and coached solely by students. Even without a staff sponsor, Essence has been able to perform for large audiences without any funding from the school. Last year, the group performed at BET’s “Spring Bling,” and tentatively in January, they will return to BET to perform on the daily music video countdown show, “106 & Park.”

Ostrom Nobel Prize

Ostrom accepts Nobel Prize in Stockholm

An encircled, golden ‘N’ marked the spot on the stage where Elinor Ostrom met Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf on Thursday in Stockholm.

IU-Pittsburgh Men's Basketball

Crean reaches 200th win

·

Crean’s win came on the biggest stage of his coaching career at IU. The Hoosiers faced a team that had received votes in the top 25 only a week ago. And it came just before a Saturday bout with No. 4 Kentucky.

NCAA discusses expanding tournament fields

·

The NCAA is looking into it behind closed doors – at least preliminarily. Rekindling discussion of a popular topic outside the organization, the NCAA has held early-stage talks about expanding its men’s basketball tournament and possibly moving it from broadcast to cable. But don’t worry, purists. No changes are imminent.

IU v. UT-Martin Women's Basketball

Hoosiers, Billikens meet in St. Louis

·

The Hoosiers will take their two-game win streak to St. Louis at 3 p.m. Sunday against the Billikens. As a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, St. Louis boasts a 3-5 record this season.
