Jared Shears, a junior from LaFontaine, Ind.. died Friday in a single-car collision on Old State Road 15. The Wabash County Sheriff’s Department received a call about the accident at 1:58 a.m. Friday morning and responded to the scene.

The Monroe County Fair has been a tradition for more than 100 years, and Saturday marks this year’s opening day. This eight-day event takes place from noon to 10 p.m. July 24-31 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, located at 5700 W. Airport Rd.


Campus Bus Service sets ridership record

IU’s Campus Bus Service set a new milestone in rider participation this fiscal year, which ended June 30, by transporting nearly 3.5 million passengers. This record beat the previous years’ by nearly 200,000 passengers, a 10.9 percent increase during the past year. It also makes IU’s bus system the third-most used in Indiana, after Indianapolis and Lafayette.

Keep cool at the pool

Without a doubt, July and August are the cruelest months. The temperature pushes 100 degrees on many days, and the humidity is so thick the air is like juice. During these two months of the year, I find just about any excuse I can to stay inside, because as much as I enjoy being outside, looking like a hot, sweaty mess is not terribly flattering or comfortable.
