21st Century Scholarship faces financial trouble

Booming enrollments are causing severe financial problems for the Twenty-first Century Scholars Program. The program, which offers full-ride university scholarships to students with financial need will require about an extra $30 million in the next state funding cycle in addition to its $28 million budget to keep up with enrollment, which nearly doubled in the past few years.

Dry weather suspends boat rentals

The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department announced Sept. 1  that boat rental at the Griffy Lake boathouse is temporarily suspended because the lake bed is exposed in some areas due to low water levels.

The sound of classic rock resonates through the restaurant. The smell of hops is in the air. Local art hang on the walls, bringing a laid-back feel to Upland Brewing Company.

Senior Madalyn Morse worked alongside Margaret Contompasis, head of the IU painting conservation at the IU Art Museum, and two other students for five weeks to restore the Thomas Hart Benton murals in the Woodburn classroom.

Exhibit reveals IU’s relationship with Afghanistan

“Indiana in Afghanistan; Afghanistan in Indiana” features a number of historic Afghan items obtained by Lilly Library curator Jim Canary alongside photographs taken by Wissing when he was embedded with the Indiana National Guard’s Agribusiness Development Team in 2009.

IU Alumnus grants School of Journalism single largest gift

The IU School of Journalism received the largest individual gift to date of about $1.75 million from  IU alumnus Marty Anderson who worked as a reporter and editor at the Associated Press for more than three decades.

Book rental interest grows at T.I.S.

More than 1,000 textbooks were rented this semester from T.I.S. College Bookstore, said Greg Lloyd, the store’s general manager, and the amount of interest in the rentals will keep the program going.
