Sylvia McNair

A two-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist, McNair is a senior lecturer in the voice department of the Jacobs School of Music. She has performed with major U.S. and European orchestras, and for the late Pope John Paul II and Hillary Clinton. McNair received a master’s degree at IU in 1983. 






Tom French
A Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter at the St. Petersburg Times, French — who graduated from IU in 1980 — returned to the University in 2009 as the Riley Endowed Chair in Journalism. He currently teaches Journalism Specialties: Story Mechanics and Narrative Journalism.  








David Michael Hertz
A professor of comparative literature in the College of Arts and Sciences, Hertz was nominated to the National Council on the Humanities by former President George W. Bush in 2008. He previously served on the Council from 2003 to 2006, and his current term ends in 2014.







Dawn Johnsen
President Barack Obama nominated Johnsen, a professor in the Maurer School of Law, to head the Office of Legal Counsel in 2009. Johnsen also served in the Office of Legal Counsel as acting assistant attorney general under President Clinton from 1997 to 1998.

Gass is a professor in the Jacobs School of Music.

He teaches courses on the history of rock ‘n’ roll and popular music and is on the Education Advisory Board of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland.
