Latest AP poll ranks IU No. 7 after solid victories

The latest Associated Press poll has IU at No. 7, marking the first time the Hoosiers have cracked the top 10 since Jan. 21, 2008. While the rest of the season has yet to be determined, recent history has not been on IU’s side. Here’s a look at how IU has fared in post-Bob Knight seasons in which they’ve cracked the AP top 10.

Littrell happy to be a Hoosier

As 2011 came to an end, the IU football team lost one of its co-offensive coordinators when Rod Smith left to coach at Arizona. On Jan. 3, IU Coach Kevin Wilson named Seth Littrell, coincidentally the former co-offensive coordinator at Arizona, to the post of offensive coordinator.

The high cost of free lunch

The words “hungry children” usually evoke images of children in Africa, stomachs bloated and rib cages protruding from thin flesh, but there are hungry kids who go to school less than two miles from IU’s campus. Fairview Elementary is within throwing distance of gourmet restaurants, organic grocery stores and dorm cafeterias overflowing with ethnic foods.

Indiana House Democrats have ended their walkout, which has kept right-to-work legislation off the floor since the General Assembly began the 2012 session last Wednesday.

Roth ignites second-half attack at Penn State

Penn State held IU junior guard Jordan Hulls to just one 3-pointer in the final 19 minutes of the game after he had already knocked down six. Unfortunately for Penn State, the team forgot about Matt Roth.

Victory comes from behind the arc for Hoosiers

Hulls and Roth combined to go 12-of-15 with 3-pointers Sunday against Penn State (9-8, 1-3) as No. 12 IU (15-1, 3-1) notched its third road win of the season in beating  the Nittany Lions 88-82.

If this were high school, her mom would have come in and said softly, “Kaylee, time to get up.” Kaylee could have fallen back asleep if she wanted to. Her mom would have been back in a few minutes to turn on the light. But this isn’t high school.

Gretchen Catron was among the potential new members, or PNMs. She had been through 20 Party, 14 Party and 8 Party. She submitted rankings, and the houses ranked her. She even started seeing herself in a house, imagined being part of a new sisterhood. But, Sunday morning, Gretchen’s recruitment journey came to an end.
